We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating the birthday of Kobo Daishi at the Aoba Matsuri Service with a “Family Picnic Day.”
The service and picnic will be held at the Anne Rudin Peace Pond at William Land Park (map attached). The pond is located near the intersection of 14th Avenue and 18th Street. Just look for the large pond.
Please bring your friends and family and celebrate the day with a picnic lunch followed by the service. Following the service, Odori (dance) teachers will show us how to do a few Obon odori dances. It’ll be great practice before our Toronagashi Service and Obon Odori in August. This will be followed by a special performance by the Koyasan Taiko Group.
For lunch, you can either purchase a bento box lunch from the Aji Japanese Bistro or if you prefer, you can bring your own picnic lunch. Here is the order form for the $20 bento box lunches. The Temple will provide water, beverages and dessert. Since the area has no picnic tables, you will need to bring your own chairs and blankets so remember to bring them along.
We will begin distributing preordered bento boxes around 11:30 a.m. so please arrive around 11:15 a.m. We look forward to seeing you all on family day!
