On Sunday, January 16th, the Temple will be observing its Hatsu Daishiku Service, the first service of the 2022 year. When New Year’s Day arrives, it is the custom to first greet each other with the familiar “Happy New Year” or in Japanese “Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu.” The Hatsu Daishiku Service provides a time and place where we can also present our first of the year greetings and pay our respects and express our gratitude to Kobo Daishi and to all of our ancestors
