Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko

30 years and counting, the Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko dan is a group of spirited individuals dedicated to the traditional drumming style of Japanese Taiko!

We have dozens of dedicated drummers who practice regularly for a variety of performances. Drumming is great for your physical and mental health, teaches timing, teamwork, and discipline, and fills your life with friendship and music.

It will be a casual and fun way to hang out with this touring taiko family. The family consists of parents Takumi and Izuna and children Sogen, Ryoma, and Yamato. They are in 8th, 6th, and 3rd grades. They will do a performance and talk about the art, answer questions, and do some demonstrations. We will get some pizza and some snacks to feed the family plus a few more. Please feel free to bring food for yourself or to share. You are also welcome to bring friends and family. It will be a casual potluck, but please don't feel an obligation to bring anything in order to come. If you let Sensei Greg know you are coming, it can help prepare, but also don't let that prevent you from coming. I think this will be a great opportunity for anyone interested. There is no charge for this event, but you may make donations directly to the Kato family if you would like to help on their tour. Introducing our new Instructor

We’re proud to welcome Gregory Wada as a new taiko instructor. As a drummer and a teacher, he has been a great asset to the Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko group, and we’re excited for the energy he’ll bring for our future projects and performances. Stay tuned for even more taiko content!
