Kasane Mochi Set & Family Kasane Mochi

$7.00

Our annual Mochitsuki takes place this year on:
Saturday December 21, 2024.
Orders need to be placed by December 14th to ensure we have all the materials necessary.

Kasane Mochi are a stack of mochi (slightly larger than the komochi), intended for display at your home altar, after which they can be consumed. Usually topped with a small citrus fruit (not included).

A “Family Kasane” will be displayed on the Temple’s altar on New Year’s Day, for a small additional donation. Please provide the family name you wish displayed on the placard (in the space below) and the donation will automatically be applied. Leave this field blank if you just want the standard fresh Kasane Mochi for pickup. Family Kasane can be taken home and consumed after New Years, but it may be a little harder than our fresh mochi.

Please come and pick up your order at the Temple’s social hall between 12pm and 3pm the day of the Mochitsuki. Family Kasane Mochi can be picked up from the Temple after January 1st. Shipping is NOT available for food items.

Please enter the family name to be displayed at the Temple. Leave this blank for standard Kasane Mochi.

Description

Koyasan’s New Years Kasane Mochi

Kasane mochi are usually displayed on the family home altar stacked with a small citrus fruit on top, as an offering to our gods and ancestors. They are also respectfully called “Okasane Mochi,” or “Kagami Mochi” in reference to the fact that shinto altars usually have mirrors to represent gods.

A “Family Kasane” will be displayed on the Temple’s altar on New Year’s Day, for a small additional donation.

NOTE: This product is only available for pickup at the temple during the New Year Mochi Sale. Shipping is not available for food items.
