Leaded crystal has a higher refraction than straight glass, and makes it easier to cut into crystal-like facets to further enhance the beauty of the glassware. However, due to the presence of lead, it’s no longer recommended to store food or drink directly in leaded crystal containers, especially if the food item is more acidic as it can increase the leaching of lead.
