Announcements for April 2019

1st Annual Koyasan Hokubei Sokanbu Gathering - The North American Shingon Mission held its first annual gathering that invited all members of the affiliated temples to attend.  In years prior, the Sokanbu gathering only involved the affiliated ministers.  Held at the Los Angeles Koyasan Betsuin, this gathering also celebrated Bishop Junkun Imamura’s promotion to Dento-Daiajari.  Our Temple’s delegation totaled 11 individuals, including Rev. Iwasawa, and our gift to Bishop Imamura was a beautiful handmade quilt with all the names of the Temple’s membership embroidered on it!  Click on the link below (New Pictures!) to view pictures from this special event as well as pictures of the quilt!

Pancake Breakfast - The Temple will hold its Spring Hanamatsuri Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, April 7, 2019, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The price is still $6.00 per adult plate, $4.00 for children.  The Temple will also be selling its delicious pies (apple, apple-blueberry and lemon meringue) and the Fujinkai’s chirashi-zushi and spam musubi. Enjoy a delicious breakfast with us!  Please bring your family and friends to this worthy and tasty fund raiser.

Evening Meditation Session - The April session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, 2019, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Temple sanctuary.

Shomie-ku Commemoration Service - The Shomie-ku Commemoration Service will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m.  This service commemorates the day that Kobo Daishi entered eternal meditation on March 21, 835 A.D.

Special Prayer (Gokito) Service - The Fudo-Myo-o Special Prayer Service, for car blessing and safe driving, is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m.  The registration fee is $20.00/vehicle for members and $25.00/vehicle for non-members.  Click on the links to view the flyer and registration form.  Those who register will have a special prayer performed by Rev. Iwasawa and will receive a personalized talisman (omamori).  In order to create the personalized omamori, please submit your service application form to the Temple by Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

If you are unable to attend the April service, there will be another Fudo Myo-o special prayer service for car blessing and safe driving on Sunday, June 23, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m.

Fujinkai Workshop - The Fujinkai’s April workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., in the Temple’s social hall.  This month, taiko instructor Kaori Kubota-Sakauye will be teaching us how to make beautiful origami flowers!  There is no charge for the workshop, so everyone is invited to attend.  And the Fujinkai serves tasty refreshments!
