Announcements for July 2019

Evening Meditation Session - The July session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2019, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Temple sanctuary. 


Toro Nagashi Lantern Workshop - The Temple is inviting the Hatsubon families to create a Toro Nagashi lantern shade for their deceased loved one.  This year’s workshop will be held in the Temple’s Social Hall on Sunday, July 7, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m.  The Temple will provide the paper (pre-cut and pre-assembled) for the lantern shade and paints if the family chooses to paint a picture or write a message.  All Hatsubon family members, especially children, are encouraged to participate!  Click on the link to view pictures from last year’s workshop.


July Goeika Practice CANCELLED - Due to a scheduling conflict the July 13, 2019 Goeika practice has been cancelled.


Obon Services - Annual Obon Services are held in the month of July. In the Obon Service, we pay our respectful homage to departed family members and friends. Click on the link to download a pdf of the service application form so you can list those relatives and friends you wish to have honored at this service.


This year’s Obon & Segaki Ritual service in Sacramento will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019, beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Following the service, Somen noodle soup will be served in the Temple’s social hall, followed by the Temple’s annual Obon Odori performance.  Please be sure to stay and watch our members and friends perform these traditional Obon dances!  Specials thanks to Mrs. Toshiye Kawamura, instructor for the Sakura Minyo Dokokai, for teaching us these beautiful dances!


Other Obon Services - The following is a list of Obon services to be held on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the following cemeteries:


     9:00 a.m. - East Lawn Cemetery, Sacramento

    10:30 a.m. - Sacramento Memorial Lawn, Sacramento


San Jose Obon and Daishiko Service - The San Jose Obon and Daishiko services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019.  The Obon service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, starting at 10:00 a.m.  The Daishiko service will be held at the Miyahara residence that afternoon, starting at 12:00 p.m.


July Fujinkai Workshop - The Fujinkai’s July workshop will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., in the Temple’s social hall.  There is no charge for the workshop, so everyone is invited to attend.  And the Fujinkai serves tasty refreshments!

Taiko Group Performance Schedule for 2019 - The schedule for Taiko Group performances for 2019 is now available for viewing.  Click on the link to view their page.


Trying to find a form?  Most Temple event forms are available under the “Calendar” link above.  Go to the current year and then the month the event will be happening.  Links to the forms are there by the date of the event.  Links are disabled after the event has passed.  Membership forms are under the “Membership” link above.


Parking Restrictions Around the Temple - The City of Sacramento is enforcing parking restrictions in the area around the Temple.  Sundays and holidays are still exempt, but this will impact any Temple activities during the week and on Saturdays.  The owner of the CalFire lot across the street is graciously allowing Temple members and guests to park in the CalFire lot and alley spaces on the weekends and after business hours (after 5:00 pm).  More information with a grid map is available at the City of Sacramento website:  https://www.cityofsacramento.org/-/media/Corporate/Files/Public-Works/Publications/Parking/Residential-ParkingUpdate-V2-Sept-2016.pdf?la=en.
